How to Get Over Setbacks Faster – Thoughts on Self-compassion for Ambitious Women
In honour of St Valentine’s Day, here is a reminder on the importance of self-compassion, in particular, for women with big drive, big goals and big ambition.
According to research, those who practice self-compassion are more likely to cope with setbacks in a healthier way, from forgetting to floss right through to not achieving your work KPIs or even to losing your role for some reason.
A more compassionate approach enables you to focus on learning and growth, rather than self-criticism, wanting to throw in the towel or self-flagellating with self-awareness.
Some days you might not get things right 100% of time, or even 50% – and that’s okay.
A more self-compassionate mindset helps you foster the resilience and flexibility to keep going.
“If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” ~ Buddha
Last Valentine’s Day, I wrote on the difference between self-compassion and self-esteem. I received so many positive messages from readers that I wanted to remind you of the distinction again this year.
Self-Compassion or Self-Esteem, Which Is Best for Women?
Having big goals and dreams, whether that’s C-level ascendancy, establishing a consultancy or even wanting to rule the world, is not the easiest of rows to hoe and there will be setbacks.
Sometimes we even imagine we might need to be bullet-proof.
Instead, add a little self-compassion into the mix and not only will you have longer term success, but those around you will thank you for it later too.
Drop me a note with your thoughts.
And PS, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t ❤️
